We recently sat down with Komiya Reiki, a sophomore at Nanyang Technological University whose international upbringing across Singapore, Japan, and America has given him a unique edge in navigating both academic and professional landscapes. In this interview, Komiya shares his journey into economics and data science, details his diverse internship experiences, and discusses how Jelper Club has played a pivotal role in expanding his network and career opportunities.

―― Could you please introduce yourself?
Reiki: Hi, I’m Reiki Komiya. I grew up in Singapore, Japan, and America, which has provided me with a truly international perspective. I’m currently a sophomore at NTU, majoring in economics and data science.
―― What inspired you to pursue a dual major in economics and data science?
Reiki: I’ve always been fascinated by politics and the underlying economic forces that shape our world. Combining economics with data science felt natural because I believe quantitative methods are essential for analyzing complex economic and political issues.
―― Could you share some of your internship experiences?
Reiki: Absolutely. Right after high school, I interned at the House of Representatives of Japan, where I supported a former defense minister’s office. Later, during my first-year summer, I dabbled in data analytics for marketing projects. I’ve also written technical articles on data science and AI, and I’m currently involved in research on carbon trading. Recently, I accepted an internship offer at a Japanese equity hedge fund, which I secured mainly through networking.
―― How has your international background influenced your future career plans?
Reiki: Growing up across different cultures has definitely broadened my perspective. For now, I plan to build my career in Singapore because of its strong financial sector, especially in hedge funds. In the long term, though, I’m open to returning to Japan to further enrich my international experience.
―― How did you come to know about Jelper Club, and what has your experience been like using the platform?
Reiki: I was introduced to Jelper Club by a personal connection, and I was immediately drawn in. I’ve found the discussion threads and job application features extremely useful—especially when I applied for opportunities like the TOHO Global Internship.
―― What advice would you give to other Jelper Club members?
Reiki: Networking is key, particularly in niche fields like hedge funds or private equity. I encourage members to actively participate on the platform, engage in discussions, and take advantage of the shared insights. It’s a great way to learn and grow together.
―― Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Reiki: I’m grateful for the support Jelper Club offers. Whether you’re just starting out or already deep into your career, there’s always something to learn here. I look forward to connecting with others who share similar interests and to continuing my professional journey with the help of this incredible community.
―― Thank you for your time, Reiki. We wish you all the best in your academic and professional endeavors.
Reiki: Thank you very much. I’m excited about the future and eager to keep growing with the support of Jelper Club.
